Honda vs Mazda Cars: Safety Features

When you slide inside a small car, you want to know that it has what it takes to keep you safe on the road. The Civic and Mazda3 fare well in this respect: Both offer an impressive slate of driver-assistive features, like:

·      Adaptive Cruise Control: Helps you keep a preset distance from the car ahead.

·      Forward Collision Warning: Warns you of imminent frontal collisions and helps apply the brakes.

·      Lane Keeping Assist: Helps you avoid drifting outside of your lane markers.

These are all excellent features that come standard in the Civic via its Honda Sensing®suite. These same features are available in the Mazda3, though you’ll need to upgrade beyond the base trim to experience them.

All-Star Engine Specifications

2019 Honda Civic

Peek under their hoods, and you’ll find the Honda Civic and Mazda3 are very well matched. Their standard 4-cylinder engines put out similar amounts of horsepower—158 HP and 155 HP respectively—giving you a reliable way to get from Point A to Point B.

If you’re looking for more thrilling acceleration, both cars offer upgraded 4-cylinder engines to produce outputs hovering near 180 horsepower, though only the one in the Civic is turbocharged. Need more power? The Civic Si and Civic Type R deliver 205 and 306 horsepower respectively, while the Mazda3 lacks a high-performance variant.

Small cars are highly efficient, and these two cars are no exception. The Mazda3 sees an EPA-estimated 28 city and 37 highway MPG, which is quite impressive. However, the Civic improves on those numbers even further, with up to an EPA-estimated 32 city and 42 highway MPG.1

Interior: Ample Space Inside

Inside the Honda and Mazda small cars, you’ll find plenty of room for a comfortable ride. In fact, both cars offer rear seats spacious enough for adults. With rear legroom measuring 35.8 inches, the Mazda3 is the perfect place to stretch your legs. The rear cabin of the Civic is more spacious, though, with 37.4 inches of legroom.

You’ll find a bit more room in the trunk of the Civic as well no matter which body style you choose. While the Mazda3 sedan has 12.4 cubic feet of cargo space, the Civic sedan tops it with 15.1 cubic feet. Behind the rear seats in the hatchback models, the Civic sees roughly 23 to 26 cubic feet, while the Mazda3 has just 20 max cubic feet of space available.

Honda Civic vs Mazda3: Choosing Your Next Compact Car

There’s no doubt that the Honda Civic and Mazda3 are two of the most exciting rides in the compact car segment. Shoppers across Fresno, Clovis, and Visalia will be impressed by these cars’ immaculate interiors and sleek exterior styles.

However, the Honda Civic stands out in the end in terms of fuel economy, interior space, and safety features. If you think it might be a good choice for you, set up a test drive at Selma Honda, and get behind the wheel!
